Date: 23-Sep-2011
Thousands of motorsport enthusiasts gathered yesterday (Thursday) in the afternoon sun at Hillarys Marina to get a closer look at the Australasian Safari vehicles in their pristine condition and chat to competitors about their expectations for the event. The Variety Club Choir set the scene with a stunning performance, and following a traditional Welcome to Country, Minister for Tourism The Hon Dr Kim Hames MLA then officially welcomed competitors and flagged off the first bikes as the sun began to set.
Entertaining Q&As with each competitor provided some insight into the cars, bikes and quads in the race, and the expectations of competitors, and spectators eagerly watched as each made their way through the arch to get ready for the journey tomorrow to Geraldton for the Prologue day, which will set the start order for Leg One on Saturday.
