Australasian Safari’s heading to Geraldton - and you can witness the action!

Date: 15-Sep-2011

Competitors in this year’s Australasian Safari will be in Geraldton next week for the start of Australia’s toughest motorsport challenge.

On Friday 23 September competitors will complete the Prologue that takes off at Glengarry Station and finishes at the Geraldton Safari Show on the foreshore.

Spectators can witness the excitement of the race from a spectator point at the Prologue, and then come into town and check out the vehicles as they are displayed for a ‘show and shine’ at the foreshore.

Prologue - spectator point
See the bikes, quads and 4WDs in action for the first time when they complete a Prologue, or time trial, which sets the pace for the rest of the race over the following seven days.

The Prologue will be held on the historic private property Glengarry Station, the former home of Edith Cowan, located approximately 20km east of Geraldton.

There will be a spectator point located on the property that will be signposted from Geraldton Mt Magnet Road. It is free to attend.

The prologue is a short selective section that allows competitors to test their vehicles and sets the start order for the first leg of the race. Bikes will take off at 3.25pm, followed by the quads, then autos.

The competitors will race in a stage at the property, and then head to Geraldton for a timed finish and the start of the Safari Show.

Where: Glengarry Station, Moonyoonooka, WA. The path will be signposted off Geraldton Mt Magnet Road.
When: Friday 23 September, 3.20pm–4pm.

Geraldton Safari Show
Moto, quads and auto competitors will finish the Prologue at the Geraldton Foreshore, arriving steadily from 4.30pm and parking up for a vehicle display.

Enthusiasts can chat to competitors, check out their vehicles, and listen to interviews with competitors. There will also be an announcement of the results from the Prologue.

The first motorbike is set to arrive at 4.30pm, followed by the quads and then the autos.

Big name stars such as three-time winner of Dakar - Frenchman Cyril Despres, V8 Supercar champion Craig Lowndes, Australian off-road moto champion Ben Grabham and Swedish Rally Princess Annie Seel will all be competing, and will be around to sign autographs and pose for photos.

This family-friendly event is free to attend.

Where: Geraldton Foreshore Drive, Geraldton, WA.
When: Friday 23 September, 4.20pm to 6pm.
